Snake Repellent

If you live in an area with a lot of snakes, which can be almost anywhere in the United States, it may be a good idea to keep those snakes out. That is especially true in areas where you can come across poisonous snakes. The chances of being bitten by a poisonous snake are not that great even if you live close to them because most snakes will choose flight over fight in regards to humans. Snakes see humans as predators so it makes no sense to attack. Snake bites mostly happen when a snake feels that it is its only way out, or if a human accidentally steps on it or its nest. There are some exceptions to the rule like the cottonmouth which can be aggressive but even they will be most likely to slither away. Because of the possibility of injury from a scared or an aggressive snake it is important for you and your family to keep them out.

Easy Repellents
A good and easy way to repel the snakes from your property is to use cat litter. The reason cat litter works is because the bits of litter can get stuck in a snake’s scales and that makes the ground very uncomfortable. Snakes will mostly choose to stay away from the area. The technique is not 100 percent guaranteed but it is a good deterrent. Another way to keep snakes out is by mixing mothballs with the cat litter. Snakes don’t like the smell of the mothballs so that should also help keep them at bay. The best part about this solution is that you can get both things at your closest supermarket. There is no need to go to a specialty store, so you can have your repellent in place within a couple of hours.

Over The Counter Repellent
There are a variety of snake repellents that you can buy at home and in the garden store. Some of those repellents can be great and will keep the snakes out, while others can be a waste of time and money. If you are going to get an over the counter repellent the smart thing to do is research it before you buy it. You can do your research two ways, you can check on line or you can ask an expert at the store. When you check on the internet you should make sure that you read real reviews; that means paying attention to the language. A lot of companies will make their own reviews of the product and it will read more like a sales pitch than a customer review. Getting comments from people like you will give you a better idea about the effectiveness of the product. It is not recommended to use commercial repellents if you already have snakes on your property. These repellents may act as a barricade and your snakes may not vacate the property of the snakes.

Keeping The Snakes Out
Snakes will be more attracted to your property if they have a place to hide. A lot of people will place rocks on the garden as a way to make it look better. But rock piles that you place around a tree or in the garden will give a snake a great place to hide. Another thing that snakes like is the debris that can get accumulated. These places serve as shelter and if you keep them in your yard you should not be surprised to find snakes. Take care of your grass, if you keep the grass short you will be less likely to have snakes. If you feel that you already have snakes and you are looking to clean debris or rocks from the garden you should do so with extreme caution. Some landscaping services or wildlife removal services will gladly assist you in removing the debris and the snakes.
